A late night on Friday kept me from hitting the LA stores right when they opened. By the time I got to High Fidelity and Rockaway Records they'd been pretty well picked over. I stopped off at Mono Records and grabbed a few things, but only 1, non-exclusive RSD release. Still came away with a nice haul and it was nice

Glad to hear such a positive assessment. Hopefully I'll find the resolve to watch it soon.

This is sitting on my DVR and I can't yet bring myself to watch it. I've been a die-hard Liverpool supporter for 17 years—my relationship with that team is longer than almost any non-familial relationship in my life—and I can hardly stomach the idea of seeing it played out again and having to see the faces of the

They did a handful of promos and some brief excerpts on Sportscenter, but the promotion paled in comparison to that of Bad Boys. Also, unsurprisingly, given the timing and most Americans' antipathy towards European sports, ESPN took pains to find analogues between the anniversaries of Hillsborough and the Boston

Typically a person doesn't spend months or years trying to fight off a heart attack or a bout of pneumonia. If a person is diagnosed with cancer and drops dead a week later then battle probably isn't the appropriate turn of phrase, but when that person (and their family and friends) invests countless amounts of

Have any Rye fans on here sampled the Whistlepig Boss Hog? Worth the investment?

This is reminding me how dangerously low my stock is right now. I only have 2 bottles of whiskey (Glenfarclas 12 and Nikka Coffey Grain), some Kahlua, 151, Plum Brandy, and a bottle of Hopfenstark's Boson de Higgs Saison.

Hilarious because he's referring to a white woman who grew up in upper-middle class suburbia and now makes a good living writing about the travails of—you guessed it—privileged white women?

Jacques Tati can do no wrong. This film is amazing, but nothing trumps Playtime.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but I think the all-time biggest, jump-out-of-your-seat moment for me has to be the scene in Audition when the phone rings and the sack that's been sitting in the corner suddenly jumps.

Was reminded the other day of a terrifying sequence that I'd all but forgotten. In Killer Klowns from Outer Space, the scene where Dave returns to the police station to find one of the clowns using Officer Mooney's carcass as a puppet. It's a jarringly creepy scene in a movie that's otherwise so steeped in camp that

I went to highschool with Ross Ulbricht. Very nice, bright, unassuming guy. I'm flabbergasted by this whole thing, and can't square my recollections of him with the heinous crimes he's accused of.
I'm not a huge fan of Lehane's but I hope he can do this story some justice. I find it a little disconcerting that it's

Honestly, I have a sneaking suspicion that those albums won't hold up well for me. I was really into D-Plan once upon a time, but haven't listened to them in ages — I could be totally off base, but I feel like I'd rather just remember them fondly than revisit them and spoil it.

I'm tempted to not listen to this, and keep on not listening to Change and Emergency & I as well, just to keep my very pleasant college-era memories of D-Plan intact.

Here's a link to a very solid article by some fellow named Stephen Hyden discussing Haim and Chvrches and their ilk in relation to this exact phenomenon. If only the AV Club had a music critic as honest and insightful as this guy…

Gotta say, I don't think you get the full effect on the album. If you found anything to enjoy on your listen(s) I'd highly reccomend checking them out in concert. I wasn't initially enmored of the album, but they were easily the best non-headliner at the Pitchfork Fest this year.

As someone who is friends with a young, wildly successful Real Estate agent / family man in LA, I can say that this is really not much of a stretch. If you are moving million+ dollar homes on a fairly regular basis, and have an inside line on foreclosures, short-sales, and the like, you can probably afford a nice home

I will see this and hope it is a huge success, because the first one was wonderful and anything that keeps Bill Hader working steadily is ok by me. Dude's gotta suplement that "fuck you, T-Mobile money" somehow.

Cool Story Bro:

Jim Carrey's been preparing for this role for years. He's very method.
