CK crafts well thought out jokes. Maher just sort of flippantly said this. People are free to get offended by either, but Maher's comes across more like he feels he gets a pass and CK's jokes come across like he's well aware he needs to justify his use of it.

The one issue I have with his apology is that his regret is not changing the subject. Maybe that's just him being honest, that changing the subject is the most he could manage to bring himself to do, but the issue isn't that he let Trump keep talking.
