Their most recent album* was pretty good too. Their catalog is pretty strong, save for half of First Impressions probably. They're not groundbreakers, but I admire their devotion to rhythm.

The replaced cover is a shame, even though I like the look of the US version.

I didn't find it sympathetic at all, more that it demonstrated how the protagonist's single-minded, selfish pursuit hurt the people who cared for him and that his desire to embrace nature was really him running away from his life.

Do we see Javier's hog in the movie? Penn has a tendency to insert some penis into his movies…

Love when the drums take over in 'Aja', it has such a bright, crisp sound to it.

Someone once described that part to me as Alex's way of saying 'Marsha! Marsha! Marsha!' Of course, Eddie totally rips on that song too.

The sax solo on 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking'

Specifically, any white guy scatting. There's a song by OAR, 'Crazy Game of Poker' that, along with a multitude of other sins, features some of the absolute worst white-guy scatting I've ever heard.

Oooh good one.

Every time I've had hush puppies they have been really dense and not all that pleasing. I'm going to New Orleans this fall, though, so maybe I should try the real deal, instead of the Mid-Atlantic Yankee version I've been getting.

What else do you do as Werner Herzog?

I don't know how I missed his 2006 album. I'm gonna have to go back in time again.

That was early-AV Club, this is middle-AV Club.

They should just fry the shrimp in whatever regular batter they used before and then put them on on a cheddar biscuit with some kind of remoulade and lettuce and tomato and sell that sandwich as their special.

Hmmm…this fried batter sounds pretty good too.

The violin in Bob Dylan's 'Oh Sister' or in the Byrds' version of 'I Am a Pilgrim'. Both are more just showcases for the melodies of each respective song, but they both sound so good to me.

I also love his soprano sax solo at the end of 'It Makes No Difference'. Garth's amazing.

Since you brought it up, here's a list of some of my favorite jazz solos:

Or even the studio recording.

'Take Five' was originally conceived as a drum showcase for Morello. Of course, it does still have a drum solo (especially on the longer album version), but now is mostly renowned for it's incredible melody.
