Seems like he originally said something sexist and/or racist, and changed it when people called him out.  That'd be about par for the course, except he's usually not craven enough to hide evidence of how terrible he is.

On any given day, I don't mind him.  I've seen him be funny with stand up, so I know he's mostly alright.  But that rape joke was really, really bad, and this show is utterly inane, so he's lost a lot of points.

When I was a kid, I had a friend tell me my favorite baseball player(Tony Gwynn) was worse than his favorite player(Cal Ripken Jr.) because when they received comparable injuries during a game, Gwynn cried and Ripken did not.
