That was one of my few disappointments for the first season. They introduced a really interesting character in Heather and she spent most of the season pining over Greg.

I actually thought Heather was underutilized last season. So I am happy they have rectified that in basically one episode.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend gives them a legitimate awards contender and one of the most talked about shows on social media. I think they can live with poor ratings considering CW does not do great there anyway.
