There will be Hartley tomorrow. I made sure of it.

BLAIR WITCH PROJECT is on the list because several of us (including myself) think it's genuinely great. You may find that insane, and that's your right (I wrote that capsule and you can see I was prepared for y'all, as the first two words are "Yeah, yeah"), but I assure you it wasn't included because of its influence.

I don't know whether I speak for my fellow voters when I say, without apology, that I don't think either of those films are especially good. JURASSIC PARK I would tiptoe toward calling actively bad, actually. Spielberg was a terrible fit for that novel; I really wish James Cameron had made it. (NOTE: The James Cameron

Well, we did get Kieslowski's RED on there. I voted for LES AMANTS DU PONT-NEUF, 32 SHORT FILMS ABOUT GLENN GOULD, HOWARDS END, and LAND AND FREEDOM, along with a bunch of other foreign films that didn't make the cut. One will appear in my supplementary list tomorrow; others included:

No, but that's probably because they were released in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

For the record, HIGH HOPES is an '80s film. I had LIFE IS SWEET on my first ballot, but I'd be willing to bet several of my fellow voters have never seen it; it's never been released on R1 DVD.

AUDITION made the A.V. Club's best-of-the-00's list (and would have placed higher had I voted in that one). The other two did not, but probably would have been eligible for that list rather than this one, on the same grounds.

You've already hit upon the rationalization. There's a bit of voiceover early on explaining that it's all but impossible to dispose of a body in the movie's distant future (as opposed to its present, which is still our future). "Tagging techniques, whatnot" is as specific as it gets. The movie wants you to accept its

Marshall is superb. I just wish I believed the moment when he caves in the face of Fonda's weak interrogation. "Well what about the night before *that*?"
