If you're gonna include ALPS, it's criminal to exclude its far more successful cousin ATTENBERG. If nothing else, it has a strong Best Actress candidate (for the discriminating voter, anyway—Oscar just might overlook her) in Venice prizewinner Ariane Labed.

No need to apologize. You can always watch the film and then come back to this piece later. That's what I do.

Ooo, gross. I have no control over the clips; I just specify the timecode. Assumed you'd get it subtitled, sorry about that.

By the way, I should mention that after I filed this piece a counterexample from another medium occurred to me: stereo vs. mono in the '60s. The Beatles, for example, recorded all of their albums from Hard Day's Night on with four-track equipment, but all the way through the White Album they were concerned exclusively

Of course. As I said in the piece, I'll watch 3-D movies in 2-D on video if for whatever reason I missed them in the theater. It's not all or nothing. But given that I'm going to the multiplex, and have a choice, I want to make the right choice.

You may be right. (I may be crazy. Ho!) This is a conclusion I've only just come to; the only post-converted film I've seen in 2-D to my knowledge is The Green Hornet, and the 3-D was so unwatchable I took my glasses off halfway through and just endured the blur. It was less annoying.

It's not about pride, it's about money. Everyone now *reports* on the weekend's #1 movie, which is a ton of free advertising for that film. There is no wide studio release that doesn't covet being the box-office champ the week it opens, and almost all 3-D movies are wide studio releases.

I'm colorblind, so I don't see any color films the way they were intended. Or the real world, for that matter. Them's the breaks.

Isn't there an entire paragraph where I address the post-conversion issue? I'm pretty sure I wrote one…

I had always assumed that it was an afterthought, and have been seeing only movies shot with 3-D cameras in 3-D. And it was probably was an afterthought in many cases. But now I'm reading interviews with people like Barry Sonnenfeld who say they're shooting with eventual post-conversion very much in mind. And as I
