You have the commentary in a nutshell wrong. Phipps said "I didn't need to see any more" meaning he doesn't need to see any more revenge thrillers, not as you imply, that he didn't need to keep watching the movie.

The targets felt really soft and dated. The premise of the chicken skit was pretty funny, until they actually went to the cult. Other than that, it was mostly just a dull game of beat the hippie. Yawn.
