Yes, I think it's just a matter of adjusting my expectations. (But nearly every critical review I've read has had high praise for these first two episodes.) It's still early, but I can see "The Americans" being at the top of the "good" shows, but it's not yet at a place where it's in the realm of the "great" shows.

This is exactly how I feel. Everyone was saying it was the Best New Show since Homeland, so I think I got my hopes up that it would be just as compelling and gripping, but so far it really pales in comparison. The writing is just not as good. Someone mentioned that the dialogue sounds too TV-ish, and I think that's a

Well, it's not like I'm having problems rooting for or against Elizabeth/Philip it's just that I don't feel compelled one way or the other. Their story hasn't really drawn me in enough to care.

Yes, but there's no Mandy Patinkin going "Previously on…"

I agree. Girls absolutely go shopping for bras (for the first time, at least) with their mothers. It sort of feels like something a man would write, not knowing any better.

I don't know, did I watch the same episode? I thought it was a fairly big jump down from the Pilot, which I enjoyed. It felt very disjointed and clunky to me. I'm not yet emotionally invested in any of the characters—so I'm not rooting for anyone, really. It's strange, but I'll keep watching, because I DO want to

I thought this was easily the best episode of the season. This show is so much stronger when there is a more even balance between the four girls.

I think his character on Bridesmaids was Irish. I thought his strange accent on GIRLS just added to his weirdness. It sounds very labored which makes sense for a poseur like him.

Let's hope we can retroactively add Homeland to this list come fall.

True, but I was also struck by just how predictable it was, particularly with regards to Deb ending up killing that police officer in the finale. That seemed blatantly obvious to me (maybe it did to the regular viewers, too?). The language also just seemed incredibly cliched. And so I was just left wondering if it was

The only bits of this show I ever saw were the last ten minutes of most episodes this season waiting for Homeland to come on and that was enough.

She's awesome on Shameless. I agree that she's deserving of some acknowledgement for her work on the show — I thought that after the Thanksgiving episode last seasons she'd get some awards buzz.
