Woah, woah… no. He was solidly Kinks man all the way till the mid-90s, proceeded to write the best rock memoirs ever, then released two solid-to-great solo albums within the last 7 years, also touring as a successful solo artist.

I've never heard About Face, at least in part because the album cover always creeped me out. He was a good looking fella circa the gatefold of Meddle, but his features took on an offputting reptillian vibe on that cover.

Well put. Just alright. If anything they're a bit lower key—aiming for the picnic in the park as opposed to the bleachers of an arena.

Teenager of the Year remains one of the best albums of its time. "Paddle-to-paddle-to-side-to-side-to-paddle-to-paddle-to-side-to-side-to-paddle-to-paddle-to-side-to-side: PONG."

…WELL?

Yeah. I'm usually game for any kind of 70's-throw-back pomposity but damn that album was dull, even with all of the "let's rock" sentiments on its sleeve.

You are not insane. "Mockingbird Girl" was tasty glam rock, and the use of vibes on "Divider" and "Jimmy Was a Stimulator," sublime. Fuck more cowbell, more vibes!

Happiness in Magazines is by head and shoulders the best post-blur album. Even better than the mighty Gorillaz. Someone described it as an album full of "Coffee + TVs" which is not accurate, because it's got real range and depth of emotion. Just a fabulous, clever, rockin' joint—Freakin' Out in particular is the bomb,

Ditto on "Save it for Later"

Scoop/Another Scoop are great!

Pure and Easy, plus Let's See Action AND Sheraton Gibson! While it was a tribute album of sorts to Meher Baba, so not for everyone, it's definitely a classic in my book—even necessary, if you want to round out the Lifehouse aspects of Who's Next.

Not so certain about that. Neither album is perfect. I surely love Slit Skirts, Slit Skirts… but Empty Glass's best moments (Let My Love & A Little is Enough) are superior IMO.

No way! Original take all the way. No one sings those words like the man.

Gremmie Out of Control, Netty's Girl, Helmet's cover of Army of Me… good times yes indeed.

All of the best Wavves songs have the word "Demon" in the title.

I certainly agree with the excellent point in your 1st sentence. On your second, though, there was room enough for Jay and Nate, so I wouldn't call this time wasted.

Thanks. Missed your lengthy discussion somehow. Seems about right. Something kind of anticlimactic about the whole thing coming down to [semi-spoiler] the Comedian's detailed exposition.

I've been meaning to ask you what you thought of the treatment of Hooded Justice  in Minutemen.

That was a fair, if overly optimistic assessment of Constantine. I really lament the loss of Hellblazer, but having an open mind/curiosity, I checked out this reboot. No dice. No interest in following a superhero version of JC. I loved HB for the solid runs, nasty urban setpieces, standalone issues where he'd do

It's too bad he's been such an alienating figure. His guitar style is so unique, in a league of his own, but he's got this stain of 100 cool punk rockers calling bullshit on his ethics over the years.
