I'm a jaded sumbitch. It's hard to get worked up about anything these days. But dammit, Louie is just perfection. Just when you think he's going to do something sappy, or conventional, he pulls the rug out from right underneath you.

All AVClubbers feel exactly the same way about all things! Creating an account here buys you every season of The Simpsons, Community, and Doctor Who!

It's been said that the best directors are also great actors, albeit they do their acting behind the scenes, for the cast and crew. I don't think the opposite is true of great actors though.

I have to say, absurdist Louie might be my least favorite Louie. Not that it isn't funny, just that his honest emotional relationship stuff reaches higher highs. "Bully", "Blueberries", and "God" might be my favorite things ever to be shown on TV.

The thing is, Louie doesn't really care about getting laughs all the time. That's the worst trend in television. Everything's got to be funny, every sentence a punchline. Few shows are really allowed to breath anymore.

This is a show where his mother later played his girlfriend, after all.

Great ending. Has Vernon Chatman (of Wonder Showzen) always been a producer on Louie? That may be the biggest change for this season of all.
