Yeah, I've been replaying the song in my head and trying to come up with a context where it makes sense but I just can't. It felt like part of it was from Jeff and the other part was a blatant Fuck You from Harmon aimed at critics of the shows more meta moments - delivered via meta.

I didn't laugh once but I chalked it up to Harmon trying to get a ton of plates spinning as early as possible this season. I kind of feel like this episode should get an "incomplete"; in so far as it might get better in hindsight depending on whether the groundwork laid tonight pays off later down the road.
This was such a table setter episode that it's hard for me to objectively grade. That being said the 2001 bit was nothing short of genius and will hopefully be the beginning of reastablishing the connection Pierce and Jeff were forming in season 1 but was abruptly dropped in season 2.
