Then there's that whole "crapping on everyone that ever gave a damn about her" thing of Rose's. The callous disregard for (and simultaneous stringing along of) Micky, the complete lack of concern with leaving her mom thinking she's dead for years at a time. She's a real gem.

Actually, Rose completely torpedoed my attempt to bring my wife to the show, by being a flat-out embarrassment to her species and gender. She's a pretty, flighty, selfish dullard, and makes the early seasons of the reboot impossible to rewatch despite how much I like Tennant.

She's not particularly bright (unlike Dalek-Clara), unintellectual (that comment about finding history boring, for example), and lacks Victorian Clara's brass. She's a huge downgrade from Amy, in other words, and more like Rose. I was really hoping we'd moved past that particular model of companion.

It's unfortunate the the Clara we ended up with as companion is the least interesting, and least likable, iteration of the character of those we've seen.

The whole "young girl companion in love with the doctor" thing is pretty tired at this point, though. A bit more variety would be a welcome thing.

It's conceivable, actually, that the inferiority of Crichton's eyes (as noted in Crackers Don't Matter) make him less light-sensitive than the others.

It's a mildly amusing teen soap with a Nancy Drew twist, but I've no idea why it generates the kind of furious loyalty it does around the internet.

Indeed, I'm kind of startled to discover that people think it's worse than I, E.T., where both the acting and the writing of the show are at their absolute nadir IMO. I can think of any number of early season 1 episodes that I'd consider weaker than "Jeremiah," actually. It's not a great episode by any stretch, but

Wait, there's an episode of Farscape that's generally considered worse than I, E.T.? I've always thought one of the (many) great things about this show is how it gets the worst is has to offer over with the second episode…

Well put.

I mostly agree, but think "Lisa the Vegetarian" is the point where the Simpsons started to lose this ability, and started to treat Lisa the way this review treats her: as a shrill humorless opinion machine.

"Indirectly" there should be "invesely." Sorry, the math nerd in me couldn't let that one go. Other than that, I wholeheartedly agree!

Poisoning a child with the ultimate goal of killing millions is not something I would reduce to being "a choice I don't agree with." There's rooting for someone that's different than me, there's rooting for an antihero, and then there's rooting for people that are genuinely, unequivocally evil. It's relevant to note

Neither, I just think it's fairly self-evident that most people aren't going to keep watching a show about child-murdering Communists.

If you think that's a steep drop, wait for next week. The second episode made the lead characters not merely unsympathetic, but downright monstrous. Plenty of those 1.97 million won't be back.

Silly AV Club, that show ended last season!

I certainly found the pilot downright off-putting, to the point where I didn't even bother to give the show another try until recently. As introduced in the pilot, there's not a likable character on the show that isn't voiced by H Jon Benjamin.

Ninja Warrior was the single best reason to watch G4.
