I took advantage of the President's Day free weekend and was so annoyed by the commercials that I paid for Hulu Plus. But now I have 700 amazing movies to watch for free for 8 dollars a month, so I only resent it a little bit.

Agreed. Ran was the third Kurosawa film I saw and the first I saw on the big screen (at Lincoln Center). The experience changed the way I watched film and thought about art in a global context. So. Much. Red.
Rhapsody in August is not his best, nor available on Criterion, but it broke me like few other films and is a staggering lyrical achievement. Just ignore Dick Gere.
Kurosawa always wins my bracket. Usually over (The) Duke.
