Hull Repair Drones are amazing if for nothing else than being able to repair yourself easily between fights with the mothership. The fact that you can also repair mid-fight and convert extra drone parts to repair during the rest of the game is just icing. Good call.

Yeah, watch out for Technology and Technology 2. They are both great on their own, but in combination with certain items they actually reduce your damage output (and I am pretty sure Polyphemus or Brimstone, if not both, have damage output lowered by at least Technology 2).

Cloaking is definitely the most effective way to deal with the drone power surge, but it can be done with shields and evasion. Disabling the drone system on the opposing ship only stops the normal drones they'd have out - it doesn't affect power surges.

My biggest problem early on with FTL (and this also applies to BoI, but FTL primed me for it) was that I was leaving sectors too early. In FTL, it's worth pushing it to the limits, and even accepting a fight against the rebels at the exit if it nets you a few more stops before you leave the sector. In BoI, it is…
