You're referring to the cruise missile he did fire in 1998, the one that critics saw as an attempt at distraction? But weren't those critics largely ignorant of the on-going threat posed by the the strike target—Osama bin Laden?

Now I thought the irony was quite well-communicated. Despite having them played by attractive actors, this family is pretty un-likeable when they are in campaign mode, rather than in idealism mode. I think that's the point of the series.

Quincy's impassioned speeches made me ill because, as a female child,I found the sexism of that show so revolting. To me his righteousness was riddled with hypocrisy since the characters were so committed to objectifying women. I still shudder when I think of those extraordinarily ugly old men having attractive women…

I drink when the war correspondent, celebrated for surviving in remote, hostile places, sticks her fingers in her ears and goes "Lalalalala" whenever someone mentions electronic communication procedures.

Dominic West in The Hour? Are you joking? That was a supporting role. He was supposed to be a 1950's upper class, Eton-educated insider drawn by the lower-class lead character into exposing government lies. But his accent was wrong, his body language was wrong. When he was in scenes with other members of the…

Sure. First note that Don's face reflected in the glass is haggard with prominent black circles under his eyes. The tableau is one of male domestic bliss, something Don believes he has at the beginning of the season, and believes will be the new focus of his life from now on. The fatigue is the reality of his life at…

Nice review! I enjoyed this (dare I say) more than the site review. Especially happy you were able to do justice to the themes without ignoring the details that made the episode so satisfying. The faulty electrical system on the Jag was a shaggy-dog story, with one of those punchlines you only see coming just before…

I've always preferred there be no "true."

He was fantastic as Captain Hook (and Mr. Darling) in the most recent Peter Pan feature film (early 2004 or so.) Case Histories was part of the Masterpiece Mystery series on PBS last fall. And I actually prefer his work in his own accent. His voice is more expressive when he isnt shoving it into the back of his…
