It isn't "awry" for the viewer, but it fits the topic for movie characters: Parade scene in "Easy Rider." "Parading without a permit?! Do you know who this is, man? This is Captain America. l'm Billy. We're headliners, baby!"

Since there's a time limit, I might not include "Ambulance," although it's enormous as an album-opener. "Beetlebum" from Blur fits the same bill.

As I said in an earlier post, it's a good 60-minute primer. It's not really a best-of, but a sampler playlist. It's missing a mood of either "End of a Century" or "You're So Great."

Agree. And it's an underrated "whole." "Blur" holds together as an album very well, too, and seems to impress me more in recent years than it did at the time.

"Sweet Song" and "Good Song" are both sweet, and good.

Some excellent choices here. We could split hairs in places, but it encompasses the catalog well. A definitive Blur one-hour mix could last 90 minutes.

I like the entries for "Match Game" and "Back to the Future: Part II"

I want to see "Looper," and I keep forgetting to pursue it. I'm not sure why.

I'm sure this repeats at least a few observations … I won't throw Sleater-Kinney under the bus, but The Strokes and Sloan should get "runners-up" consideration for S, especially if Wilco gets a well-deserved on-deck nod at W.

Lots of good choices on this list. Probably 70% of "Classic Kiss" could be included, and similarly, Frampton (really, how many people owned his studio albums prior to "Comes Alive!" or after "I'm in You"?) ….. A far more under-the-radar addition I would include: "Still Holding on to You," by The Dream Syndicate.

The Wonders are in breach of contract.

Is "Dangerous" by Big Data "too 2013?" I like that one. I'm lagging behind more & more as I "mature."

A more interesting Q&A would be: Using solely the Best Picture nominees each year, what would be your Oscar choices?

This tells us more about A.V. Club, Brittney Spears and Black Flag than it tells us about A.V. Club, Brittney Spears and Black Flag.

TFC also had some killer one-note guitar solos — not sure if McGinley did it, but the one-noter on "The Cabbage" still dazzles me. (with the slide-guitar fills leading up to it as a bonus).

"Marquee Moon," Television. (I'm sure at least one person already mentioned this in the thread.

"My Sharona" is *definitely* an underrated guitar solo. Good mention!

It's possible to differ with your choice for greatest solo, but it describes my "ugh"-ness at this AV category … I can sense the writers looking at the category, and thinking, "S****, I have to choose a 'favorite' for this?"

I realize there's a web-design move toward visuals — Slate did the same type of redesign a few weeks ago — but some of us can still actually interpret words, even if they're in an old-fashioned menu-tab format.
