I bet it's a little of each: when I was a kid I didn't know standup comedy beyond those HBO standup shows that came on after SNL but really I don't think I became very aware of black standup comedy until maybe college? I think white audiences are a lot more aware of black comics now than they were 20-30 years ago.

haha! But there is always the Casey Abrams effect. Idol voters love a white man who reminds them of a black singer but without all the scariness of actually being black.

So far Brielle is the only one I read as the contestant I'm going to enjoy rooting against, but I'm sure I'll find more.

I agree; and I think they are trying to stack the deck with fairly seasoned, mature singers this season in order to avoid repeating the Battle of the 17 Year Olds.

I too thought that was Future Larry David

Dammit! But helpful, thank you.

hurrah! Now, when will it be available on Netflix instant?

She seems really cool. I saw her on "The Mortified Sessions" and she came off as positive and nice and grateful for her career, unlike another certain '80's starlet who was also on the show who just came off as kinda dark and bitter and a little nutty.

This was fantastic; I don't really have much more to say about it.

I'm always horrified by the recounts of their arguments. If that's how he really talks to her, I don't know why she puts up with him.

she's had a tough life too, that lady, having lost a husband and two kids.

I like to think of the Tears for Fears version as the angry version (and the superior version).

I thought she confirmed it when she checked her sent folder from her inbox? But I'm not really splitting hairs, if that's what made it work out, I'll take it.

there, there ::hug::

This is a wonderful headline. I can't wait to share it with my mom, who first introduced me to "Rebecca." Also, I loved Mitchell and Webb's take on the movie:

I agree but I think ponytails are cuter than perms.

Jennifer Connolly was so, so beautiful in Labryrinth. I sound like a creepy old man, I know, but she just kinda got skinny and hard as an adult.

@avclub-992bd739880a2ac5f4a8c1d4174c5ce5:disqus That's true about Hammond's abuse but I remember feeling guilty that I had tuned into that interview expecting to be entertained by his stories and realizing, oh no, he's got serious problems. It somehow felt rude to listen to him be so raw and exposed. but that's my

No, it's not fun. That's how I felt after listening to Darryl Hammond's interview on Fresh Air. He's mentally imbalanced and it's uncomfortable.

I couldn't tell if he was joking or being sincere when he said "The whole world is full of shit except me." I think the fact that I couldn't tell is telling.
