A couple of months ago, I showed my ex-girlfriend The Big Lebowski, which she dismissed as trash. If I had measured my affection for her before and after that incident, compared it to the level of commitment we had maintained throughout the relationship, and plotted that data on a graph of the real-valued function,

Dammit, I'm getting to it. Why do people keep holding that movie over my head?

I've seen it, but I'm not sure if it should be the first von Trier film I should show my friend. Honestly, I think it's the one film by him that I can honestly say I enjoyed completely.

That's probably a good idea. I don't want 8 1/2's spell to wear off too quickly.

No, I've seen a few of his others, but I'm showing someone my choice films, and I'm stuck between showing them these. I've already shown her La strada, La dolce vita, and 8 1/2, as well as other directors that I like.

So, I'm having another movie night this week. I'm stuck between showing her von Trier's Europa or Fellini's Julia of the Spirits. Any advice?
Also: Before I started watching more movies, I used to believe Wes Anderson and Wes Craven were the same director.

I think that might be part of my problem with him, but I won't let it affect my enjoyment of his better roles. I didn't get a chance to see this over the weekend, but I''l try to get to it soon.

Thanks, and I will try. Like I tried to make clear in my original statement, I'm not trying to be openly antagonistic or provocative, I'm just trying to address a personal problem I have with a respected and funny actor who all of a sudden (as I see it) became a star and household name. I've seen his work, and I've

Is it just me, or has Jim Rash become more voluptuous since I last saw him? Him, in the middle of everyone: Va Va VOOM.
This can only improve his myriad costumed forays.

Wha-wha-what?

Well, I can't imagine devoting an entire program to this man-child character and still have it be decent, let alone funny. I don't have a problem with the cheap/tacky appearance of the program, it's just that Reilly combined with this character which I think I would find more annoying and cloying than comical or

He looks like someone who I would like to punch
but who, if I got to know him,
I would actually find sympathetic.
(Damn, "sympathetic" doesn't have the same connotation in english as it does in spanish.)

I used to have the same Portman/Knightley problem, but then I searched my heart and discovered that I find Knightley more attractive than Portman, so problem solved!

I enjoy when I associate an actor's role with one of their other, more familiar characters than who their trying to portray in the work. It's like my brain is trying to recommend ways in which the work I'm watching could be more enjoyable.
That being said, I have never watched one of those ads for his Adult Swim show
