January 2nd is usually awesome for me, because it's my birthday and if it's at the end of the week I generally get the day off. But it's on a Wednesday this year and I'm recovering from strep throat I picked up while traveling, so I'll agree that this year it sucks.

TRAVEL CLUB!

This is off-topic, but: I was stuck in Argentina for an extra day because an erupting volcano on the border with Chile delayed my flight and made me miss my connection back to the US. And then we had to fly *over* the volcano. So any good thoughts for my rescheduled trip this evening would be much appreciated.

We say "nobody beats the Wiz!," and then bitterly laugh really hard.

I don't know, I think that kind of thing theoretically could be good, if the comments are funny - that basically describes Mystery Science Theater 3000, after all, and I love that show more than several family members.

Thanks! Sounds like you're more ambitious than I'll be about the trip, I think - my plans are generally just walking around, sight-seeing and looking at penguins. But it should be a great experience anyway.

As a DC-area non-football fan, man, I'm not looking forward to Monday. The one night game during the work week is always awful if you live near Landover and work in DC, even if you take the Metro, as people seem to be under the mistaken impression that you can get to the stadium from there. Every year I've seen at

Ha, well, I will be going via cruise ship, so it's really only a few hours of Antarctica at a time before you can go warm back up. I leave next Friday, and am simultaneously excited and a little bit anxious.

It is, and you feel like a little bit of a sucker buying it because, hell, the Antarctic peninsula is generally ~32 degrees this time of year and that's not *so* much colder than the Northeast US. But you still buy it, because the guides recommend it and you don't want to be stuck there and freezing.

Thanks! I am on the fence between borrowing my dad's netbook and buying a cheap small tablet for plane use, and buying a Vizio ultrabook because it's so thin and shiny. I took my huge 17" laptop on my last trip and it was a fairly terrible decision.
