That is exactly how I feel about him. He knows his shit, and knows it well. Even if I disagree, he's got my respect.

On the politicization of teaching literature
Whenever anyone speaks out against it, it seems like they quickly get labeled as racist or sexist, but I think there's a point to be made there. I went to a college with a pretty liberal literature program, and I felt like what I was getting wasn't a degree in English; it…
There's nothing wrong with reading just to hear a good story, but I think literature, at it's best, can do so much more than just convey a good story.
I hope this year is just the start. He was fantastic on the Sopranos, and could be an top tier actor in the right roles.
I'm just happy to see
Gandolfini is working after the Sopranos.
I'm John Travolta and I'm hear to say
Remaking movies is a travest-ay.
Men II Wolves was better.
Hangover 2: 2 Hours of Mike Tyson Having Sex With A Tiger.
With animation, it's much harder to sell a film based on the actor's involve.
It's Sex AND the City? I've been calling it Sex IN the City for years now. Boy there's egg on my face.
If I ever got rich by some strange turn of events, I'd open a movie theater that only showed classics (and cult films after 10pm). I'd probably lose all my money, but I'd be doing something I love.
I really loved Up. The first Pixar movie I can say was underrated.
One point, stylistically
I find it interesting that McCarthy often saves some of his best prose for descriptions of violence. The way McCarthy describes it, it's almost as beautiful as it is ugly.
I agree that's fine. I just don't put him in the same class as Scorsese, Altman or Kubrick, because they were actually successful in the latter parts of their careers.
If it's half as good as the original Blueprint
It will be very good indeed.
Renegade came out back when it was OK to like Eminem.
I'm not trying to diss Coppola. Like I said, he directed 4 of the greatest films ever made. But I think to be a true auteur, you need longevity. The Scorsese films you listed came over the course of 4 decades, and Scorsese also directed numerous other beautiful films, from Who's that Knockin' On My Door to The Last…
Not to nitpick
I enjoyed the primer, but I think it was a little unnecessary. Don't most people (esp. people who read AVC) know a good deal about Eastwood already? And if not, can't they easily find a huge amount of information elsewhere on the internet? It feels a bit like the Rolling Stones one last year.
Two parts of Changeling ruined it for me, and they were the two parts that got nominated for Oscars.
I don't know if I'd put Coppola in the Auteur file. Sure he directed 4 of the greatest movies ever made, but he's spent the 30 years since AN destroying his reputation.
