And to think, @avclub-af7809fb474b9a36411cbdfc73757dcb:disqus , the Spider Pit scene from King Kong was destroyed and we'll never get to see it.

@avclub-33807fbc68d335db8080d3c10cb78822:disqus , say it with me now…
Yup, I'd say half of my friends list is people I've never actually met (though in all likelihood, I will meet a lot of them down the road). We just share an interest in certain historical events. The interesting thing is we definitely do not agree on things like politics (most of these guys are conservatives, with…
I love Duel, and thought about watching it this evening, as I picked up a signed first edition memoir by Dennis Weaver today.
At first I figured it wouldn't be here because it wasn't PG-13, but the PG rating it did receive is essentially what is now PG-13. So I'll agree.
Bingo. That's exactly how I'd describe it, @avclub-33807fbc68d335db8080d3c10cb78822:disqus . They just couldn't resist having Tom Cruise be a little Tom Cruise-y, and it's what keeps it from being great.

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more on the well-made aspect. It just glossed over some rather tricky points in our history, and I felt like (at the time, at least) the characters were too modern in their views and beliefs. But like you, I saw it when it first aired, so another viewing might be in order.
I was thinking the same thing. Though I probably didn't like the mini-series as much as you, given some of the historical innaccuracies. But it wasn't made for me, the well-read Indian Wars buff.
JAWS
It has nothing to do with scary, but Teri Garr was never more fetching than in that movie.
Gettysburg was also released theatrically, while also being a made-for-TV movie. Son of the Morning Star, the so-so mini-series made from the incredibly wonderful Evan S. Connell (RIP) book on Custer and the Little Big Horn, was also considered as a possible theatrical release, but that didn't happen.

There are great moments in that movie, that's for sure. But there's some seriously awful moments as well. But I'm with you, I like the movie and it's because of some of those great movies. I love the part right before they board the ferry, when the train signal starts and then the train screams by, engulfed in…
