I thought it was pretty decent. Took me a little while to get used to, but I was into it.

To #3: I didn't have Blackwall when I got one of the Grey Warden articifacts, since he hadn't really shown a reaction to the other one I'd gotten and I didn't feel like going out of my way to grab him for a 5 second thing.

Yeah, that game apparently classifies stuff like Grissom Academy and the Ardat-Yakshi Monastery bit as side quests, which are both fully formed and important missions featuring major characters.

I think what keeps these movies from being abjectly terrible (or star wars prequel level bad) is that the actors were both well cast and generally tried.

I've always taken it to be that Jackson just moved everything ahead 17 years. Like, Bilbo was born 17 years later. There's not really any markers of time in the films, so it works.

Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage made for a pretty great friendship. I was a lot more affected by Bilbo's "…he was my friend" near then end than I would've guessed.

Really he was screwed as soon as he tried to make the Hobbit closer in tone to lotr, because that's really hard to do. Tolkien himself struggled with it for a long, long time.
