I know, I know, I'm not worthy. His run of films has been incredible (please, please don't take another five years before you make "Inherent Vice"). I don't look forward to the day where I think one of his films is just really, really good rather than fantastic, but right now it doesn't look like that's going to

Love this movie. Whatever happened to Carl Franklin? Dude showed some serious chops on "One False Move" and "Devil in a Blue Dress", but he followed them up with that "Meryl Streep does Terms of Endearment" thing "One True Thing" and a pair of really generic-looking thrillers. As far as I know he doesn't do much these

I'm right there with you. "Magnolia" is my favorite movie of all time, "There Will Be Blood" is my favorite of the past ten years, and "Hard Eight", "Boogie Nights", and "Punch-Drunk Love" are all pretty fantastic as well. I'm sure one day he'll make something that's less than spectacular, but right now I'm a true

"The Posession": only the SECOND-worst exorcism-themed movie of the year.

I like Hilary Swank in other things (Boys Don't Cry, Million Dollar Baby, Insomnia), but I thought Swank's performance was actually the worst bit. She's basically doing a tone-deaf "Katharine Hepburn as a femme fatale" impression, regardless of how well those two bits fit together. "Hilary Swank" and "femme fatale"

I defended Mission to Mars up there, but I also enjoyed Snake Eyes until it completely fell apart in the last third, and Mission: Impossible is pretty enjoyable even if he's mostly there just to orchestrate great set-pieces for Tom Cruise to run through. Really, Bonfire of the Vanities and The Black Dahlia are the

Thrilled to see this, picking up a copy soon. Spent years as a De Palma skeptic before finally giving BLOW OUT a shot, and I more or less did a 180 on him. Credit to Scott Tobias and Noel Murray's Primer for giving me a pretty spectacular viewing guide. Now I've gone from "SISTERS isn't all that great" to "MISSION TO

"The Howling" has a special place in heart because my friends and I watched it on my 21st birthday. We played a drinking game where you drink every time there's a joke/pun on werewolves (Looney Tunes wolf, Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" showing up on screen). It was a fun night.

I know Oliver Stone has become a punching bag in recent years, rightfully so in many cases, but this one has stuck with me, in no small part because of Cruise's performance (probably the most effective Oliver Stone surrogate this side of James Woods in Salvador).

I'm with you here, plus the bit where Ripley learns her daughter died makes her surrogate mother relationship with Newt more concrete. Really, I dig the extended versions changes, aside from the extra colonist bit. Same with the Abyss- all the additions are great until it gets to that goofball ending.
