@eric827:disqus , while I do agree with you about the US, I think the difference is there is an institution that enforces the official ideology in the USSR — KGB. And I might've gone too far w/a blanket statement, but you have to buy in at some level if you're going to go far.

They did. They might've been cynical, but they believed wholeheartedly in Marxist-Leninist ideology. You have to be a true believer in order to climb to such heights/want to run that country.

I'm not so sure he knows. It's not like there's aliens actually trying to call Earth.

This is, I think, the best film about the Napoleonic Era. Also wanted to add that it perfectly nails the uniforms of the hussars. Why hasn't there been anything else made about this period (besides Sharpe, of course)?
