Well apparently, since they start airing in January, even in the event of a rise in ratings, NBC would renew them instead of adding episodes.

I thought so too, but the whole image of the steak burning even after it's taken off the flames makes me think of the whole image of the series, the cancer rooted inside of an individual, or society, that will slowly ruin the whole body, even after it's disposed of.  (/overinterpretation)
