because, even aside from his agenda, Abu Nazir really hates Walden.   His Plan A was foiled, which would have accomplished everything you said.   Failing that, he at least found out a way to take out Walden.

Exactly.  None of these guys are widely recognizable, with the exception of bin Laden who became a household name after 9/11.     If al-Zawahiri (current leader of al-Qaeda) was bumping around the U.S., even WITH beard, very few people would know who he was.

I did NOT want her to die!   Gretchen plays a great twisted villain, and it's a unique character on the current TV slate.

Buscemi's a great actor, it's never a question of talent.  Personally, I had a hard time buying him as a charismatic, gladhanding political figure.  That's just not Buscemi.  As a pure crime boss now, I like him a lot more.
