I feel like I just read something about this kind of practice recently…
Reminds me of The State sketch "Free Market Economy."
YOU DON'T FEED A GUY A SPONGE, BOB!
His profile says it all. "Sick of progressive fascists" and "Living in bizarro world." Well, at least he's aware of that last point.
I just watched Boogie Nights again last week (my girlfriend had never seen it). After all these years, the magic that is on those tapes still belongs to us.
My phone gets Amber alerts that I can't turn off or disable, and that buzz every few minutes until I check them. In the last couple of months, I've been woken up twice at 6 AM by one. I hate my phone.
Ch-ching!
Michigan J. Frog! I was calling it the Slow Donnie plot for a while there, because I'd forgotten my TV history.
I think the idea was that Boyle did have a really solid case, but they just didn't show it to us. Which could be sloppy writing or, more likely, the realities of dealing with the continually shrinking runtime of the "30-minute" sitcom.
Grand definitely got the better reviews, which I don't understand, because the garage / staccato / weird beats Skinner used were so much of the appeal for me, and the production on Grand was so much more muted than Pirate.
I just read this again because I enjoy the shit out of it so much, and now I have to share that Steven Seagal may in fact have my favorite opening Wikipedia sentence of all time:
The author has confused "objectivity" with "a false notion of fairness and neutrality."
Well, you ask why not A) since A) is easier, but what actually happened was probably easier to accomplish than B) or C).
"Journalism is printing that which someone does not want reported. Everything else is public relations."
We went to Iraq because Team Bush had been pushing for an invasion to secure American hegemony (and continued profits) since the 90s.
My advice is don't discuss the issues with a guy who uses "leftist" in his second or third sentence. "I know you people all think the same, and I'm here to tell you why you're wrong and I'm right" is all I hear after that.
I don't know about any 30-year conspiracy, but I don't find it a big stretch given the Bush-Bin Laden family connections from way back when and the fact that most of W's Defense and State departments' big names were part of the Project for a New American Century, which had been planning to invade Iraq since the 90s.
Part of the insidiousness of American political media is the rebranding of "slightly left of center" as "far left." Wake me when a politician is talking about seizing and redistributing the wealth of everyone who made money on the Iraq war or the intentional financial crisis and putting them in prison.
