You realize that "one-note" is an implication that they have no range, that they are showing very little variation in character and very little change over the course of the show, which, in the case of almost every significant player, is wildly false, right?

I think the writing does too, for the most part. Mike, our protagonist, has a temper that doesn't typically fit his archetype. Hopper is shrewder than his, etc.
He's not a psychiatrist so he's not going to talk about bipolar or schizophrenia, but he'll jump right the fuck in on personality disorders.
I'm trying to figure out how people I know have watched this and found the characters to be "stock" and "one-note" and other similar criticisms. I just don't get it. Did they watch the same show I watched?
