Odo in this reminds me of Niles Crane at the end of those Frasier eps where he quietly hides his feelings for Daphne (cf. "Moondance).  Quiet and subdued acting that just breaks your heart.

To be fair, though, Nog and Rom always seem to get along well.  I think Nog sees his dad as a nice, well-meaning guy (which he is!) who just happens to be inept at being a good little Ferengi.  And that means Rom isn't deserving of any kind of scorn and hatred from his son.  That part I do find refreshing.
