I like quite a bit of Bowie's work but I never really get what his mega fans mean by his "range." He changed costumes and personas but his music didn't change all that much. Young Americans doesn't sound all that different to me than Modern Love, Let's Dance doesn't seem that dramatically different from Space Oddity.

No. She's an actress. And sometimes in life, Junior, men and women resemble each other. It's nothing to feel threatened about.

Paul McCartney. I've spent so much time listening to his music (Ram!) and to the Beatles music, arguing with people about his best and worst, shaking my head at his bizarre behavior, feeling sorry for him when his wife died, feeling irritated with him when he married that nutjob and started dyeing his hair. He's like

Joe Jackson's Is She Really Going Out With Him should have been on this list. Great song. Such a mix of denial, anger, jealousy ("take your hands from her hair, I get so mean around this scene").

George had the best coat in Help. It was like this Sherlock Holmes thing with a nifty cape. As usual, poor Ringo got the crappiest coat.

Not according to Brian Wilson who said Rubber Soul was the best pop record ever made.

I'm not keeping score. Discus is. And you posted an insipid, inaccurate, unoriginal opinion that deserved to get shot down and was.

Gees, you came back here 6 times to "guest vote" in favor of your own misguided opinion. Aw. What a sad little poster you are.

Probably because he was being sensitive to Julian's feelings.

Right. That's why Yoko and Sean were sitting in the front row — to dishonor John. Sorry to burst your bubble but John and George would have been there too. The Beatles got their start as a covers band and some of their covers were great and some were awful — just like last night's performers. The Beatles would be

I know what you mean but then it would have just looked like 60s artists patting their generation on the back. I actually would have preferred some even lesser known, newer artists to sing on the tribute show. I thought Broken Bells' cover of And I Love Her on Letterman was terrific. It would have been great to have

I think the word she was looking for was "competitive" or "collaborative."

The very quote you chose reveals you are quite comfortable on occasion in the pompous camp. Elms is an absolute bore.

"I just think they are either childlike and simple or rather leaden and pompous - one or the other all the time."

The kids don't watch MTV anymore. You sound a bit cranky, dear. :)

Actually that was a fairly impressive display of sarcasm.

I read somewhere that both Yoko and Olivia Harrison were supposed to attend as well.

Sorry, to prove what point? I'm not being sarcastic here. I don't know what point you are making with these stats.

Bubble gum hits? The Beatles had plenty of hits that weren't "bubble-gum hits" and Paul wrote many of them. He poured his heart and emotions into his solo songs too, whether they were hits or not. Angst and pain aren't the only emotions you can pour into a song. You can pour your love, joy, optimism into a song. Happy

Fyi, Elvis Costello said recently that he's thinking about releasing an album of the tracks he worked on with McCartney, including outtakes, etc. Would be great, especially if it includes unreleased stuff.
