I was absolutely disappointed by the recent adaptation of Jane Eyre for that reason. The Bronte sisters wrote some magnificently fucked up novels that inevitably get adapted into inert movies. Jane Eyre was a pretty movie of a fundamentally ugly story. This sounds much more promising.

I'm perplexed by the logic of this passage. She judges women who wear makeup but admires women who use their bodies as a canvas for tattooing? Is that deliberate irony, or is it the obtuse irony of someone who honestly believes there is more than an aesthetic difference between the silly beauty standards of tattoo
