This. Sanders is not wrong that money = power, but he seems fundamentally incapable of understanding that economic status is inextricably linked with gender and race in America. And now that the election's over, he's gone right back to this position. "We'll get them jobs!" is a laudable and necessary goal, but without

I think the emphasis on difference will die down eventually, though, or at least be mitigated somewhat. The vast majority of people willing to embrace non-binary gender identities are young people, and of course they are torn between needing to emphasize their uniqueness and finding a place where they belong. Once

Right, but as pointed out above (or below, depending on how you sort) a lot of people do care, and it's not just genderfluid folks. A transwoman on Tinder who chooses female on her profile goes on a date with a guy who turns out to be violently transphobic: bad news for her. She's likely to get abuse by publicly

Quite. I used "I'm going to call you…" because I thought it was clearer in text than "Hey ________" (fill in the blank) but obviously anyone who declares "I'll call you this" without asking, who is not talking to a pet or a newborn baby, is an asshole.

"shouting down and insulting the hell out of people for not being up to speed on the most arcane minutiae of gender politics is quite another"

To my mind he's mocking liberals for caring, but I can see your interpretation as well.

The only two things I remember my mother forbidding me to watch were reruns of The Brady Bunch and Three's Company, because of the sexism in both. I watched Three's Company at friends' houses, but I don't feel like I missed out on a whole lot by not seeing the Brady Bunch.

That meeting with the press is the best thing that could have happened, in my opinion. If he'd just laid down rules for how they were going to interact with his administration, they'd all have just rolled over right then and there.

Not sure what to say except I hope you feel better, or at least are able to sleep better later.

Applause for your user name too, just as an aside.

The first time he refuses to rubber-stamp whatever legislation Ryan sends him. That's when it'll start.

He's already been doing the same thing Trump was before the election: setting the stage for who to blame when things don't turn out like he's predicted. Peas in a pod.

Nice interview, Esther. May want to correct the implication in the first paragraph that the best friend starts dating her own brother.
