Spyder…a mashup album cannot be the best album of the decade. I refuse.
I like prog more than metal…it's possibly why Skye is my favorite Mastodon album so far.
Ugh, too soon for these decade lists!
I don't know…with Mos Def and Clipse both putting out records this year, we may see TWO token rap albums!
Dan Deacon is pretty sweet…I like Build Voice a lot.
Maybe I just mean the production. Feels sounds like a rain soaked afternoon…MPP like a jungle rave.
I guess the jungle rave would be literally warmer, like temperature wise. But it's a lot more electronic and trebly.
Don't judge Animal Collective by their concerts…they aren't for everyone. Guys standing at consoles while ultra compressed synths blare. Listen to the records, use some decent headphones, you'll get a bit more nuance and melody.
Somebody maybe explain, what is the appeal of the new Phoenix? It sounds like nothing to me…as soon as the song is over, I forget how it goes. And it's all the same sound. You don't have to love Animal Collective, but you can't deny they've got something going on, musically.
Yeah, I really like that Royksopp record too. Those dudes can arrange a track like nobody's business.
I didn't listen, but Get On Your Boots sure was bad.
In some ways I fully get the hype about MPP…it feels like the culmination of a musical path they've been on since Sung Tongs, and it features some of their best pure songs. I still think Feels is better; it's a little warmer, and just sets a more inviting mood than MPP, which can be strident.
2 More things
1. I really want to hear that Future of the Left album! Curses was great.
At least we're not doing the decade best ofs yet
It sucks that milquetoast white guys from New York are apparently making this years best music AGAIN…still, I can't argue with the masterworks AC, GB, or the DP's have released this year. (Though I think AC's been better before, and I'm still undecided whether V…
HawtHORNe is about a unicorn nurse, who impresses the patients with his majesty but keeps accidentaly goring them while changing their catheters.
Diplomacy
My all-night board game marathons usually involved Diplomacy. Diplomacy isn't a master strategist's game as much as a social manipulator's game, and I had some pretty devious friends. Good times.
I hate poetry
You pretty much voiced all my issues with the book (the endless description, the plotlessness, the total bleakness) and then say it works anyway. I don't think so; I don't think heaping spoonfuls of allegory and symbolism redeem the wordy directionless mush of the story.
Did Jackie Jormp-Jomp give up
when she fought off those vampires at Woodstocks?
This is great and all…
but this is not as newsworthy as the fact that FUTURAMA IS BACK IN PRODUCTION!!!!!!!!
Dammit…here it is, without the parentheses:
