Loved Finn's comment about the first Psychedelic Furs album and Richard Butler's use of the word "stupid." In fact, one of the signifiers to a lot of us who loved that album (and the all-time classic follow-up TALK TALK TALK) that their U.S. breakthrough MIRROR MOVES was a bona-fide major-label sell-out was that

A much better reality show would be a SURVIVOR-style elimination show, where each episode would end with Eastwood growling "Do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do you?" And a shot of Eastwood pulling the trigger as the screen cuts to black.

Of course the title of Ragnar the Pirate is passed down over the years. There have actually been 15 Ragnar the Pirates since the time Rand wrote the book and 2016.

Just once, I'd like to try something NEW. But nope, same old ferret-fucking, day in and day out.

Yes. We were.

What kind of wood doesn't float?

Songs!

I've loved Robyn Hitchcock since Underwater Moonlight, so here's a top ten list for anybody who is curious.

Every episode of every show is someone's first episode. Imagine if this was yours. How could you possibly — at any age — take this show seriously ever again?

I can already see somebody asking: "how is this song any different than the 1,654,984 songs Pollard has put out in the past decade?"

Oh, I don't know. For every Ryan Adams / Oasis / Violent Femmes — where everything forever gets compared with their "early stuff", there are artists like GBV or Sonic Youth or Husker Du, who stumbled along for a few records before figuring it all out.

Deadwood & Community
Todd VanDerWerff's DEADWOOD write-ups were great, and totally deserve to packaged together, along with various interviews, etc.

All I know is that every time Dawes comes up in my mix I wonder when I added Jackson Browne to it.

Secret Success Indeed
I was in Jr. High when this came out — just young enough to appreciate it as part of the overwhelming tide of Bicentennial-related pop culture, but not old enough to be super cynical about it — so I've always kind of loved it.

I've always loved NEW SENSATIONS. "I Love You Suzanne" is a credible attempt at a pop single, and "Doin the Things that We Want To" is both a mission statement and an egregious case of name-dropping.

"Chain of Command II"

Lifetime Pass
Since 1987.

This is great
Solving the UI problems that they were addressing with this redesign is something that I do for a living, and at first glance, this is a great solution!

Something in the Way
There is a great, unreleased BBC session version of "Something in the Way" —slow, doomy but with screeching feedbacky guitar — that I'm hoping gets a proper release with this reissue.
