One I did in the past that was cheap (although not many people got it) was to go as Cool Hand Luke. If there is an army-navy nearby, you can buy the shirt and similar pants there. I sewed some stripes on the sides for the convict stripes, found a bottle opener on a chain and drew 57 on the back. Boiled egg is optional.
