Peaches and Cream of Gold?
Peaches and Cream of Gold?
Cool, thanks. I actually saw the reformed Far last year as well. And although I'll take onelinedrawing's Sketchy EPs and Visitor and Jonah's solo albums any day over Far, they still had a few classic tracks (I'm thinking Bury White, Mother Mary, Girl, and All Go Down). The live show didn't hold a candle to Jonah…
Far
What is the consensus on Far? Do they even fit into this discussion? I got into Water and Solutions by way of Jonah Matranga's later stuff (starting with onelinedrawing.) Are they generally viewed as a well-respected member of whatever post/proto wave they belonged to, or are they sort of reviled? I got into…
Mayor's office!
Was that obese guy making sweet sweet love at the beginning of the video the same dude that played Joy Peters in Tom Goes to the Mayor? Sure looked like him.
Harsh, man. I'm just trying to spread a little silly joy. No need to hate.
This calls for a scat-off eulogy!
Scooby-da bop! Scooby-da ba-bop! Roo-dee-too-too-toodaley-aah!
Krod Mandoon
Worst thing I've seen on Comedy Central. At least Secret Girlfriend had pretty ladies everywhere. Still though, both pretty terrible.
If you want to spoil yourself, go with Humpday. That's probably the best, most plot-driven one. It's also not about 20-somethings though, so it's kind of cheating. Outside of that, I'd say go with The Puffy Chair (another one that's a little more plot-driven) or Mutual Appreciation (the ultimate mumblecore movie.)
Sacramento
Represent…or something. We don't get many mentions outside of politics and The Man Who Wasn't There.
Hi, Bah.
Almost forgot: For dessert, have some chocolate. It's a symbol of love.
The Room
Johnny and Lisa's favorite pizza: half Canadian bacon with pineapple, half artichoke and pesto, light on the cheese. And to drink? Just mix some whiskey and vodka and you're set.
Coolness. "God's Angry Man" doesn't seem to be available on dvd, but I found it here:
La Soufriere
I know you aren't talking about shorts, but La Soufriere is just absolutely stunning (and available to watch on Netflix Instatnt too!) It features Herzog travelling around a mostly abandonded volcano-island that is about to erupt. Absolutely essential Herzog. I'd put it right up there with his best.
Already covered
Some of these that already have covers that I know of:
Deal
This album is Tuesday's $3.99 mp3 download deal at amazon. Step on it.
It's not just how stupid he acts though. It's his intricate history that makes him believable. All the bizarre stories about Auntie Nora and his strange parents and their vacations are too airtight (and not always funny) to be made up.
And lest we forget author Jamaica Kincaid.
Kinkade
It's "Kinkade", not "Kinkaid." I've found that there's about 7 or 8 different ways to spell it, and it's not a strange enough name for people to check if they got it right, so it gets misspelled all the time. Gotta represent for the "-kade"''s, even though our only famous representative is kind of a huge…
The Room
In interviews, Tommy Wisseau justified the lack of further mention of the cancer line thusly: according to his research, people who have cancer don't like being pitied, they want to be treated like everyone else. Therefore the best thing you can do for someone with cancer is to never mention it. Nice one,…
