I do remember that one early episode where Voyager met up with the refugees of the Kazon and (this was before the BSG reboot) it seemed Voyager as a show was lining up like old-school BSG. "a rag-tag fugitive fleet on a loney quest — a shining planet known as Earth." And then they ditched that idea real quick.

Well, I think his point was more about any surprises coming up with Eddington, so even writing SPOILERS and explaining something would have had the same effect.

I think the Timothy Dalton/DS9 analogy works, since I would disagree with the notion that Dalton's movies had mixed results. Both were pretty good.

That to me is the key difference in quality between DS9 and Voyager. Voyager completely failed at creating memorable new alien threats and had to fall back on stalwarts such as the Borg and Q, both of which they essentially ruined as a result.

I think the main plot hole in regards to Die Is Cast has to do with the false life-signs readings. If the founders set up devices on the surface to project the readings, wouldn't those devices have been destroyed in the bombardment, so the readings levels would have changed? Actually I think the original concept was for O'Brien to help Sisko before they made it a Jake story. So maybe the writers felt that they needed to have O'Brien explicitly criticize the project so fans wouldn't wonder why he didn't volunteer to help
