I'll take Film Sack any day of the week.  No skits, no comedian stuff, no visual element.

To "send more cops"?  You're a sick man, @avclub-7e1d54dc51f639d711387188468d01d9:disqus.

I dunno, @avclub-ef7d8ff636c7f5e86f5e63b5acfd2859:disqus : non-NYC screenings of Fail Safe often ended with laughter and hearty cheers.

Where next, @avclub-39dd889e0ab668280dbd73c93917e652:disqus?  You going to the orphanage and telling the kids the truth about Santa Claus?

Whenever I hear Kate Bush doing "Hounds of Love," the last 120 seconds of this movie is the accompanying video in my head.

Changed my mind.  That's the quote I'll try to drop at work today.

And now I've got "Rivendell" running through my head.  The Archer/Rush/Tolkien nexus is complete.

My wife's a nurse-midwife, and I have triple-dog-dared her to drop it Monday at the birth center.

Many of us were, even as schoolchildren.  What's Quenya for "It gets better"?

Only surpassed by Geddy's own ATHF Fly by Night jet plane.

I won't wax Grammar Nazi about "funnier"/"funniest," since Todd has actually seen three episodes so far.

What can I say?  As a young boy, I lived through the Carter administration. [Flexes stranglin' hand]

I thought he was like a pebble in a moccasin back before it was cool.

The 1980s are best understood as a histamine reaction to the '70s.  Unsightly, but a way of exorcising even unsightlier embarrassments out of one's system.

Well, this isn't a precise dictionary definition, but if the word "bipartisan" has any useful everyday meaning at all, in America it should probably at least encompass "capable of criticizing both a sitting Democratic President from the right, and a sitting Republican President from the left."

"Staking a position"?  I'd call it an "educated guess" instead.  And since we're dealing with counterfactuals, one can only extrapolate from the known. Make no mistake, I'd prefer to be full of horseshit on this particular point, and would be delighted if future events should bear that out.

I'm about as "persecuted" as Stephen Colbert … which is to say, not to any extent worth mentioning, or that costs me in any coin that I value in the first place.  Though I do apologize if opinions contrary to the threads' general drift are that noteworthy and irritating to you.

I love Colbert "this side idolatry," but am not perfectly sure what he was risking here, or what made his performance such an historical profile in courage.  Did he honestly believe he'd be thrown in jail for what he said, or face any legal consequences at all?  I kind of doubt it.

Fascinating and instructive: here as elsewhere, the Onion, TDS, etc., are fine with making fun of Obama … as long as it's from the left of the President, or of his policies.  But you'll pardon me if that seems, by definition, something less than "bipartisan."

Ah, but its absence of anything to say about Biden's politics or political actions is exactly the point.  If it didn't shrink from taking on those—and if such a critique wasn't wholly from the LEFT of Biden—then one could reasonably call it "bipartisan."  Otherwise, it's as toothless as anything Rabin cites.
