I didn't hate the finale by any means when I first saw it, but I've grown to really really love it over the years. The last half of that season might be the best stuff Joss has done.
The Books of the Dead were awesome, too.
I'm pretty sure it's in Shells, but the way he delivers his "yes's" when Illyria asks him if he'd be her guide in the human world and if he's doing it because she looks like "her" just floors me. Barely audible, with just the right amount of hesitation. They are really small moments, but they're amazing.
