Well, the album itself comes across a lot better live (which is often the case), and the placement of some of these mellower songs throughout the set is well judged, but the Talking Heads stuff is really what everyone went craziest for The whole evening was relaxed and unforced as others have said, and I'm envious

I made it to the season 1 "finale", which was such a letdown that I knew it was going to be all downhill from there.

I saw him in Boston on Halloween, and I agree with everything you said. The crowd was a little rowdy, a little drunk, lots in costumes, and from quite young to pretty old. A highlight of my concertgoing life.

I gave up on this show
In season one.

that should be "listened"

Live show was amazing
I admit I haven't listed to the new album much, but the live show he's doing to support it is unbelievably good.

U2
This probably won't surprise too many AV clubbers, but during the Vertigo tour I saw U2 (in '05 I think?) in Boston. I was decidedly underwhelmed. I had only seen them once before, in Madrid in 1988, and they were incredible. They were very slick and professional during the Boston show, but somehow it had taken

can't speak for the Decemberists, but the one time I saw Ben Folds, he was pretty great.

I saw the Bangles too (opening for Mr. Mister, no less!), and seem to recall that they were pretty good. Can't say I remember much about Mr. Mister, though, for obvious reasons.

sigh. Although I am indeed a lapsed Catholic, I can't account for that word choice, so I'm going with "it was a typo". Yeah, that's it.

Fun Fact
Robert Morse (Cooper), was wearing a golf outfit in the Psalm Sunday scene nearly identical to the one Rudy Vallee wore when he played Morse's boss in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". Talk about in jokes and attention to detail!

not that I saw, but they'd hardly want to invite the comparison.

Nothing special
Saw them live a few months ago (opening for Cut Copy), and I can't recall a more vivid example of hype colliding with reality in my concert going lifetime.

Book?
I'd love to have this column in book form…pretty please? This and MYOF would be back to back…

nice LCD Soundsystem reference

Akon?
What, was Haddaway busy?

raise 'em right
This book is actually a pretty good resource for getting your kids into older movies:

bar mitzvahs
My other half, who is Jewish, enjoyed this more than I did. But Woody Allen already had the last word on this subject in the "Star Wars" bar mitzvah set piece in "Deconstructing Harry".

Withers wither with her?
I know I'm late to the party, but this article title reminds me of a Sondheim lyric in "Into the Woods" as one character describes a sickly cow:
