Contrivance and brilliance
Every step of the way it was obvious what was going to happen with Carolyn's baby. The only thing that was not certain was would she blame the miscarriage on the odious Mason and her smoking, or Palek for not thinking baby-sustaining happy thoughts upon hearing of the pregnancy.

Tyra's cold, man
Tyra seemed to have moved on pretty quickly, considering how cut up she was the week before. Not just her flirtiness with random guy, but her scenes with Julie seemed breezy, at least on her side. Okay, she wanted to hang out with Julie and watch Thelma and Louise and commiserate, but that seemed more

Daniel
He really went from nought to stupid with a quickness this week. He's always been dim, but this week his stupidity was off the charts. They should use that more; his confrontation with Dwayne was hilarious.

HOUSE!!!!
While I cry to see Ugly Betty disappear (and rejoice at the loss of Dirty Sexy Money), it's so great to see House on there. The first 6 episodes have been some of the best yet, filled with magnificently acidic dialogue and fascinating power plays. This week (a classic episode) even featured a joke about

Crash McCreery's monster designs are one of the few good things about this, even though they're utterly repulsive. The full size aliens, basically crosses between spermatozoa and penises with vagina dentata mouths, are inspired. But yeah, yuk.

Ben finally arrives
Ben was great this week, after weeks of doing very little. And yes, Mercedes MacNab! Sadly doing very little, but great to see her nonetheless.

Fuck me Freddy!
We held a bad movie day mini-party recently, and things went well for the first two thirds. We started with Zardoz, which went down a storm, and followed it with Labute's Wicker Man, which was also greatly enjoyed. With the final film to be decided upon, my wife and I pushed for Dreamcatcher over

Can we deem The Hunted a flop and have Nathan review it just so that those who read this feature and then seek out the relevant movies will be coerced, en masse, to hire it out? One of the best action movies of the past 10 years or so. I heartily recommend it, for what it's worth.

I should really check these things before I comment. I meant to say, introducing new characters even as peripheral as they are, has allowed the show to approach its core themes in a looser soap-opera-y manner.

When the show started it seemed like Cynthia Mort was trying to avoid soap operatics in order to focus on the three relationships at a microscopic, almost Nicholson-Baker-esque level. As more characters have been introduced the show has been able to branch out and show a wider world. Even though I respect Mort for

Palek's House of Moldy Cards
When Mr. Money or whatever his name is was telling Palek there was a problem with the house, I thought, "Predator infestation? They read my post from a couple of weeks ago!" Then when he said got a Marine in to have a look I imagined Dutch Schaeffer striding through the building. Maybe

Seconding citizengato's brave stand against the hatery. I stopped watching Alias at the beginning of season 3 because it threw out almost everything that had made the show good, and ill-advisedly jumped forward two years. Until then, I was in awe of Garner. She's a total all-rounder, and if she hadn't taken time off

Taylor Kitsch and Scott Porter
He can indeed sometimes seem a little vacant, but he's always been great when paired up with Scott Porter. Hopefully the show will capitalise on their chemistry together.

Michaelangelo
Ignore the haters. Keep it up. This season has been a delight so far. Just because it's about fluffy things doesn't mean it is fluffy. It's deeper, smarter, funnier and more consistently entertaining than most things on right now. Dirty Sexy Money wishes it was this show.

Bruce is right, it's always worth waiting until at least sweeps, but if you need to drop the axe now, then KILL!!!

Mandy
We need more Manilove in these features. Thumbs up, Schwartzman. Keep up the good work.

Twins
If all of the good moments on this show are going to come from the twins, then it's doomed. They don't even seem to be in the same world as the rest of the cast, at least prior to this episode. The battle over Jeremy's girlfriend is the least interesting plot thread of any show this season, and I'm including

The Station Agent just did a lot of the things I don't like about independent cinema, and did them thinking they were beneficial. Nothing in it rang true, though I did enjoy Dinklage.

Hope Leaves The Theatre
He performed the Charlie Kaufman radio play Hope Leaves The Theatre in London a few years back, with Hope Davis and Meryl Streep (yes, Streep! Onstage!). It was one of the most incredible cultural experiences I've ever had, and he was terrific.

Awesome Cage
Every time he does something cool like eat jelly beans out of a martini glass or get bees in his eyes I get giddy, but then he keeps doing soulless crap like Next or National Treasure 2: Box of Socks. We need to save him from himself. Was there a sequel to The Orchid Thief? If so, we can get Charlie
