It doesn't really have to be resolved. The whole secret government program training gifted children they can no longer control has kind of been beat into the ground, even just recently on Stranger Things.
Seeing it in 3D really was a mind blowing event at the time. But it was like the rush of your first rollercoaster, or I assume now, your first VR game. It is an experience, rather than a movie.
