I remember when it managed to mix the gothic/macabre with the mundane/goofy and have it actually work. There's a playful tone to the first two seasons. A sense of subversive, you know, fun at the mix between the silly and the horrific.

I don't think the problems so much that Superman's 'boring' but, like most superheroes, he was never designed to be taken seriously. To be fair, she does go on to totally fuck-up her attempts to rule a culture she doesn't understand. DwDs did a lot to make things more complicated than 'Blondie saves the ignorant savages'.

Well, that redeemed a lot of the sillier shit that went on in the 2nd half of this season. Not logistically- Christ, no- but in a plot and theme way. Still irks me that Al Qaeda somehow became HYDRA/SPECTRE but at least the plot started to follow Bond Movie logic rather than 24.
