When I was a kid my baby-boomer mother commandeered the radio, and our lack of cable meant I couldn't watch MTV. As such, with a few exceptions later in the decade, I missed most of the 1990s music scene. And by the time I got around to formulating my own musical taste I went straight to punk rock.
