I don't want to speak for the fellow or madam but I believe the idea is a bomb discourages similar movies and a hit causes sequels and ripoffs. I see nothing wrong with hoping a terrible idea for a film flops. Same reason I want a clever original movie to do well even if it's in a genre I'm uninterested in.

I have seen six movies where this played as a trailer beforehand. Every single time e audience burst into laughter. That I saw as a bad sign. I also wanted it to be good because I think it's lame to laugh at a trailer but it admittedly did look pretty stupid.
