I have no idea who the executive was, but isn't it easy to imagine someone with a privileged background (private school, East Coast, summers in the Hamptons, i.e. the kind of person who tends to grow up to be a top-level executive) saying, 'I just don't get this'?  Plus, it's very time and culture-specific.
