Dude, did you forget the sheer awesomeness known as Jackyl?
Dude, did you forget the sheer awesomeness known as Jackyl?
I find myself having to justify reading the AV Club comments because of CNN and ESPN and everywhere else. I'm like, "No, the AV Club is different. It's actually civil. . . on second thought, don't go over there because I don't want people to ruin it."
Did you ever see the interview where umpire explains the call? He's falling over the bag. Kent Hrbek, like any good Midwestern gentleman, is trying to make sure Gant doesn't fall over and get his uniform dirty.
THIS! A million times! And the comments here would be so much better than the troglodytes over on the ESPN comments.
It really is built into the Norse culture for the Vikings to fail and epically. And we have to soldier on and don't complain because it's what Odin gave us. We shouldn't want for better because at least we have something.
@avclub-f20009df133551a813e70d50bc24e15f:disqus At the time I was furious at Knoblauch for leaving. He was supposed to be the next Twins-for-lifer. Before him, we hadn't had any home-grown talent that high profile leave the Twins voluntarily. He was supposed to be the next Kirby, and I guess he just didn't want it.
My…
@avclub-f20009df133551a813e70d50bc24e15f:disqus They also put up game 7 of 1987 series on Youtube. The crowd was insane for that series. The energy is just so different, and when Kent Hrbek finally squeezes the final put-out to win it all, you can hear the weight of sports futility being lifted off of 50,000 people in…
That's why I can't buy an Adrian Peterson jersey. I still feel a little icky when I wear my Kirby Puckett jersey. Up until that whole thing I was prepared to name my first born Kirby.
My dad is originally from South Carolina, so he was always a Braves fan. My mom is from Minnesota, as am I, but she did the "I don't know who to cheer for, can't they both win" thing, which to me is basically saying, "eff you, Bastard. I'm cheering for the Braves." I was the only person I knew cheering for the Twins.
There's a reason everyone (except Cardinals fans) love the Cubs. You guys brought it on yourselves.
What's even worse than that era of the Twins not winning the series was that you could have fielded an actual starting lineup with the number of current and former Twins in this years All-Star Game.
Last separate comment I can make just about the Twins in general that will get lost in the comments stream.
I do love the "Piranha" thing, and it was nice that it became a term of endearment eventually. I really miss that team. That was probably my favorite Twins team since the 87-91 era.
My opinion on a baseball player has never shifted as drastically as when AJ went to the White Sox.
I know, right?! And it seemed to come out of nowhere. Suddenly everyone on the White Sox from the manager, to the commentator to the fans were just horrible people who took all of their anger about their horrible fathers and projected it onto the Twins.
Not if they're playing the Reds or the Braves. Those are the teams blacked out from MLB.TV around here.
Man, When Ozzie Guillen was managing the White Sox, I hated them. Early in that Twins resurgence, when the Twins were winning the division going away, the White Sox were completely classless. Saying stuff like, "we're the better team; they'll just lose in the first round of the playoffs anyway."
Most people watch the play wrong. Look at his upper body next time. His own momentum pulls him off the bag. He's clearly falling over the bag.
Yes and they lost to the Angels in the ALCS that year. I can see if he was doing a lot of moving around and more focused on the band, he could kind of get the years wrong when it all seems like a blur.
Not to come off as a creeper, but I'm a Twins fan who lives in Nashville and has MLB.TV. If he wants to come over for a game, I've got nothing going on…just sayin'.
