It's cheap but what about all of those episodes where he has this overarching plot and he only leaps when he gives Buddy Holly his own guitar riff or tells Stephen King about Christine or whatever the fuck?

I feel like I thought that a lot, or was watching with my boyfriend and he brought that up and I tried explaining it… Aren't there a few instances where they "explain" why the easier way isn't better? It's been a while since I've rewatched the series but, uh, life lessons or something?
