I came to this show as a binge watcher, consuming loads of episodes together on Netflix. I was aware of the early fantastic excellent buzz on the early going and the common complaints of how the show disintegrated into being terrible. Was it the impatience of viewing it week to week too much?
I was listening to an early commentary and it was explained. Initially it started as an set design inside joke on how they scrounged up financing by "cutting corners" They decided to keep doing it, but it was a couple more shows and they then realized the tedious hole they had dug. They found themselves clipping…
Controversy aside… I remember an interview in which Rogan defended the scene and the line… But in that interview he kinda fed the fire by seeming extremely defensive and overly declared it "only a hilarious joke"

Yeah.. Seems obvious that more seasoned looking actors are more convincing in such roles. I always think of golden age of hollywood men, guys who went through Depression and world war, who looked at ease in suits and hats, mitchims, lancasters, etc compared to soft faced slacker kids of today.
